You're performing at the next level

The promotion isn't materialising
By the time the annual review arrives, the outcome is usually already decided. Calibration conversations happened weeks earlier. Sponsors aligned or didn't. Budget was allocated to someone else. The review is the announcement, not the decision. The decision happens in September. Most people start working on it in November.
CHF 50–70k - Foregone compensation over 24 months from one delayed promotion cycle at VP level
3-4 months — Before calibration when sponsor alignment needs to exist, not after
2 cycles— two cycles at VP is becoming the identity, not a stage
What's at stake?
The 5 Stages
What I help with at each one:
Stage 1 — Read the situation You're performing at the next level. The question is whether a path actually exists or whether you're being managed through a cycle that won't deliver.
Stage 2 — Prepare the move Calibration doesn't happen at the review. It happens in the months before, in rooms you aren't in. Most people start too late.
Stage 3 — Navigate the event The calibration conversation has happened. What was actually decided, what was said in the room, and what the commitment really is, this is where you find out.
Stage 4 — Make the decision Promoted, told to wait another cycle, or reading the writing on the wall. Each outcome requires a different response, and each has a closing window.
Stage 5 — Act on the outcome The decision is made. What comes next a new role at the right level or an independent practice needs to be set up before you're visible. CV, LinkedIn, narrative, role archetypes, and compensation anchor all established before the market sees you. The preparation determines the market entry, not the other way around.
Here's what that looks like in practice:
The right level of support depends on where you are.
Some people want support from the first signal through to the outcome. Others need clarity on one specific stage. Either way, it starts with a Decision Call, where we look at your situation, establish what's actually on the table, and agree exactly what needs to be covered.
Positioning for what's next:

Not sure which applies to your situation or if your situation doesn't fit one of these, the Decision Call will tell you what does.
Not sure where to start?
If your situation isn't listed, that doesn't mean I can't help. Senior career decisions rarely fit neatly into one box. Email lisa@nextpositionadvisory.com and describe your situation in a few lines. I'll tell you honestly whether anything I offer is relevant.
